Is Your Heart Troubled?

“Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me”

John 14:1 KJV

How many times have I exhausted myself by trying to accomplish things on my own? When I find myself in trouble, do I immediately run to God? Sometimes. But more than not, I rely on my own strength to figure the situation out. What if I do this or that? But it doesn’t work and I become frustrated and exhausted. I become fretful, moody and worried. Is that you too?

Waiting
God is waiting, eager to help us, He wants to help us, rescue us. So, why don’t we turn to Him instead of restless nights of no sleep, due to working so much? Is it our pride? Or is it because we do not want to bother Him? Why is He our last resort instead of our first? I ask myself these questions all the time. I know better, I know that only He has the answers to all my problems, only He can give me the rest my body, heart, and mind need. But I still wrestle.

Weary
I humbly come before my Father God, weary and overburdened and I cast my cares at His feet. “Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you” (1 Peter 5:7 NIV). I exchange my worries, cares, and anxieties for His peace. The peace that only Jesus can give. “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid” (John 14:27 NIV).

Choices
See, we all have choices. We can either choose to trust our Father God, and not let our hearts be troubled. When we have a troubled heart, we are restless, trying to figure things out. Or we can choose to receive Jesus’ peace and not be afraid. Will that situation change immediately? Sometimes, but more than likely not, because James tells us to have joy when we face trials of many kinds. We will have many kinds of trials, why? Because the testing of our faith produces perseverance. We need perseverance, the steadfastness that is positive and helps us to endure, so we may mature. It helps us to stand strong in the midst of our many trials and it strengthens our faith (James 1:2-4 NIV). So what do we do? We call on our Father God in our day of trouble and He will rescue us and we will give all honor and glory to Him.
